Kudos. Very well structured review. Told me everything I needed to know. Won’t be getting a Kindle due to the price, but at least now I know what I’m missing!
So Kindle does not just equal books. It also means magazines, blogs, and newspapers. This you can only do on an iPad with limitation and a wi-fi connection. If I am in a car or in an area without that, I cannot easily get that content digitally. Also, a Kindle is a PDF reader. To say that the Kindle can only read books is cutting it short. The Kindle and iPad are 2 completely different devices. One is a fantastic eReader. The other is a bigger iPod Touch with more features.
Its all about media content and how they get it. People are not reading newspapers anymore because of sites like digg, but also because of convenience, cost, or time to go buy a newspaper. The Kindle offers a viable option. To me, checking the New York Times website or any other news website by a newspaper is a crappy experience. To wake up and be able to download a newspaper or a magazine to a Kindle is a nice option, especially if I don’t have wi-fi around.
just got my Kindle as an early birthday present and i love it! The only critisms i have are that the keyboard takes some getting used and some books are hard to find. LIke I searched for Harry Potter and I got everything about Harry Potter BUT the actual books by Rowling. I guess they assumed that everyone already has them and dosen’t want to read them in e-Book form.
@RocMerc when it come to health its DEFINATELY worth it because Kindles are very good to the eyes because it uses e-ink and i believe that technology is expensive now. This will be very good for university or typical academic nerd.
@RocMerc Yea, so do tablet PCs- You can get one of comparable size to the iPad for half the price, 4+ times the capacity, and run most/all common windows apps. (U810). Yea it has a physical kb too! You can get a mobile card to be built into it, and it’ll still be cheaper.
Keep in mind, I do not own either device. I just know that now that apple made a tablet, all other tablets will be ‘copying’ even though they came out first. Typical media does this.
I wonder…
What sort of materials can I download in Kindle? For example can I download Hong Kong’s newspaper?
Does it support microsoft word, powerpoint?
Can I drop notes on the ‘book’ to aid my reading?
Is there a quick dictionary check?
Does it has a touch screen?
U should get the kindle 2 it has 3g ware ever you go, it has games, and is faster at turning pages and downloading books the kindle is the original and all the rest of the ebook readers are just fake imitations of it
